Overall Shopify SEO
through some of the basics of any website SEO optimization, so just make sure to grab your pen and paper to make some notes.
SEO stands for Search engine optimization and is essentially a set of practices designed to improve the appearance and positioning of web pages in organic search results. The main search engine task it to provide the most relevant results to any a search inquiry.
When customers on the internet look for a specific products or services they use search engines like Google, Bing or Yahoo in order to conduct their search.
So naturally when we are looking to buy Leather bags for example, we want google to provide us with only the best and quality websites to shop, so that we save time and effort and are provided with the best content amongst all the others out there.
Search engines bots like google bots crawl all of the websites pages, index and determine which websites are most likely to be relevant to our search query, and then they show us the results in order of their relevance. So when we types a query into the search box, the search engine uses complex algorithms to pull out what it believes to be the most accurate and useful list of results for that query.
Shopify has fantastic Search Engine Optimization (SEO) features and it’s super easy to use with no coding skills required. You can everything yourself and automatically save time and money with this platform.
The best thing about Search engine optimization in my opinion is that if you optimize you website accordingly you can appear high organic search results and gain tremendous free organic traffic. So if you optimize your website once in a while and keep track of your keywords and SEO score, you gain more and more free organic traffic each day.
Our main goal as a website owners is to fill our website with the most relevant information, that ensures our ranking positions in various search engines results. The main SEO criteria for any website are:
Quality Content,
Relevance
Authority
Domain authority is our ranking status in search engines like Google for example. It’s meant to build trust and predicts how likely a website is to rank in search engine result pages (SERPs). It’s basically the ranking score of our website.
When you first launch your website your authority is expected to be quite low but it will increase with time. The maximum domain score is a 100. Here are the websites where you can check and monitor the website / domain authority : SEAMRUSH, Ubersuggest and Moz. These websites are actually great SEO tools that help you with your overall website optimization as well and you can choose one of them to monitor and optimize the health of your website. Please take into consideration that every SEO tool is very relative and has its own metrics, so your domain score might be slightly different on each SEO software website.
Backlinks
One of the best ways to improve your Domain Authority is with link-building - links from other sites to yours. Put your time and effort into building quality backlinks. Website Backlinks are like reference links or “votes” that direct customers from one website to another. So the most important thing is that the referencing website is also a quality website and has it’s own high score in google. Otherwise, low quality websites might easily drag your website down with them. This is why it’s very important to make sure to remove or disavow backlinks that come from low-authority sites.
Pages with a high number of quality backlinks tend to have high organic search engine rankings. Backlinks are important for SEO because they signal to Google that another resource finds your content valuable enough to link to it within their own content.
Neil Patel has a great site audit tool that I personally use to check my On Page, Off Page SEO score and backlinks and I monitor all of backlinks very closely.
You can generate more quality backlinks by working with influencers or blog authors in your field and encourage them to review your product or services on their blogs or website, generate high value content and have them link it to your website.
Blogs
Your Shopify store comes with a built-in blog feature. Writing blog posts is a great way to build your audience, earn more exposure, and drive more organic traffic and sales for your online business.
Search engines have a tendency to send users to frequently updated sites, which makes it super useful to write blog posts frequently so that your website is always updated.
Writing relevant blog posts helps search engines understand which topic your site has some authority on.
The posts you write also have a chance of ranking, which makes them another potential traffic source for your website.
Technical and Off Page SEO for Shopify
We can narrow down search engine optimization to these main aspects:
Technical SEO - User Friendly, Mobile Friendly, Loading Speed, Landing Page design, Crawling - Creating a Google Search Console account and verifying your ownership, Google Analytics account.
Off Page SEO – Backlinks (Blogs), increasing engagement and shares on social media.
On Page SEO – Landing Page optimization , Product Pages, Collection Pages, Photos.
Technical SEO
Technical SEO on Shopify requires very minimal involvement from our part, because Shopify has most of these features already built in. Optimizing Technical SEO includes
Creating Responsive and Mobile Friendly website. - use a fast, mobile - friendly themes. I bought my theme on….
Reducing website Loading Speed – You can check the website loading speed on your Shopify dashboard and make sure that it’s the same or lower than similar stores, otherwise you’ll have a huge bounce rate. You can manage your Shopify store speed by avoid uploading very high resolution images and also by deleting unnecessary apps.
Creating Impressive Landing page where your customers browse and spend time on.
You have to make that your landing page is filled with relevant information and that it looks professional so that we minimize the bounce rate. Landing page is most often the first page that the customers see, so if it’s not presentable or has a poor design, most likely customers will exit your website very quickly and it will damage your overall SEO score. High average bounce rate is a signal for search engines that your page doesn’t provide any relevant search results for the customers.
Improving User experience on your website. Your website should be very easy to understand and navigate. Don’t go overboard with categories and subcategories. Create clear and easy to navigate Menu.
Internal linking on product pages – also impacts page “authority”. Linking Collections and Product pages on Landing Page is a great tool to make your products easily available for your customers.
Creating a Google Search Console account and verifying your ownership, so that google bots can start indexing your page. You can do this after you optimize your Shopify store and add some products.
Setting Up Google Analytics account and adding your website as a property to monitor the website traffic and conversions.
Remember, your site should be built for customers first.
Off Page SEO
Off Page SEO includes Building Backlinks which we have already discussed previously. Sometimes it’s quite tough to find the right sources to reference your website. You can start by writing guest blogs and posts yourself and linking them to your website. You can also write blogs internally with your Shopify blog feature and in case you are selling physical products, you can just do a quick overview of your latest arrivals yourself and link it to the product collection on your store. Blog SEO is also another interesting aspect of building blog posts and one of the most important Blog SEO tips are not to overload your blog with too many keywords. Make sure your main target, long tail keywords are included in your post and that you have several links there as well.
Maintain updated and interesting content to create a website that naturally gets linked to.
Another thing that has an impact on website authority is engagement on social media, which can also serve as backlinks. So if you are familiar with Social Media Marketing, it will help you tremendously to drive the right kind traffic through social media advertisement to your websites landing or product pages and it will have a positive outcome on your overall website authority. So the social media platforms that work well and have the highest engagement rate are obviously Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest.
Those platforms can actually be integrated with Shopify, which makes it easier to create different marketing promotions within the Shopify platform itself. You can also create a Facebook Instagram store using Shopify integration with Facebook and once you are approved for that feature, you can manage and showcase your products and Facebook shop. You will be able to tag your products on those platforms so when you post them on social media, customers can see the price tags and access any of your product in just one click.
